Diana’s pov
I sat on the side couch of the party hall, watching my Alpha mate Nathan converse with other pack Alphas.
Nathan was so confident and handsome.
Consequently, all the packs looked up to the Dark Moon Pack as the best ally and business partner.
And I was his useless Luna.
No one even wanted to talk to me because Nathan didn't like me.
I took a sip of my cocktail and suddenly heard a wine glass shatter behind me.
I turned to see a beautiful maid frantically apologizing to a man.
It was Zoe.
Her innocent, watery eyes and long hair falling over her back made her the type that most men favored.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I really didn't mean it, please forgive me," Zoe kept bowing to the man.
The man's white shirt was stained with red wine.
"You spilled the wine on me, so now drink mine," said Alpha Isaac from the Cold Fang Pack, known for his mischief.
He held a full glass of vodka, waiting for Zoe to take it.
"She's in for it," I heard a woman behind me gossip.
That woman was wrong.
Zoe wouldn’t suffer. Someone would help her out.
Sure enough, the next moment, I saw my husband Nathan approaching Zoe from a distance.
He pulled Zoe behind him, shielding her from Isaac's gaze.
Even among the crowd, Nathan was the most striking presence.
"Zoe is too young to drink," Nathan said.
I lost interest and was about to get some air.
But Nathan called me.
"Diana, come here and drink this."
It wasn’t a question or a request but a cold order.
I exhaled to calm myself, turned around, and looked at him.
Zoe, hiding behind Nathan, tugged on his sleeve and whispered, "It's all my fault, so I should drink it."
"It's okay, Diana is good at it," Nathan said to Zoe gently. "You are different."
I suppressed the bitterness rising in my heart.
Zoe was twenty-one and I was only twenty-two.
What made her 'too young' while I wasn’t?
People around us gave me sympathetic looks.
I think they were also puzzled—
Why was Nathan defending another woman and asking his Luna to drink instead?
But I was used to this kind of life.
Nathan and I had lived together for two years because of our mate bond.
But he never loved me.
He didn’t even remember that yesterday was our two-year anniversary.
I was the only one sitting in the villa with cold steak and lukewarm champagne.
Too tired to resist, I walked over, took the vodka from Isaac’s hand, and drank it in one gulp.
The spicy drink made my stomach burn instantly.
It hurt, but I could bear it.
"I didn’t expect Dark Moon Pack’s Luna to drink so well. Why not have another?" Isaac poured another full glass of vodka.
He did it on purpose.
Isaac didn't dare to offend Nathan for saving Zoe, so he decided to make things difficult for me.
One full glass was my limit.
I would die of stomachache.
I was about to refuse when Nathan’s cold voice sounded in my ear.
"Diana, didn’t you see Alpha Isaac toasting you? Hurry up and take it."
I looked at Nathan, begging with my eyes. I couldn’t drink more.
His eyes were so cold, showing no care for my feelings.
And Isaac just came closer, holding my waist.
I struggled to push Isaac away, but Nathan seemed unbothered, so I had no choice but to drink it with my eyes closed.
The stomach pain became severe.
But that wasn’t the end.
Isaac made me drink two more glasses until I turned pale.
Isaac, satisfied with my compliance, said, "If Zoe is too precious to you, Alpha Nathan, how about letting this Diana lady spend a lovely night with me?"
I was stunned and stared at Nathan, but he remained silent, not rejecting Isaac.
Nathan smirked at Isaac, "She’s no fun. If you like a boring and dull puppet in bed, go ahead."
I felt dizzy and vaguely heard people around me gossiping that Nathan truly didn’t care about his Luna, as rumors said.
He was okay with sending his own Luna to another man’s bed to save a maid.
But Nathan didn’t seem to notice that I could barely stand, and he walked out hugging Zoe.
My stomach was in excruciating pain, cold sweat dripped down my face, and I knelt on the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
I collapsed to the ground, barely breathing, while the onlookers stepped back, fearing my blood would stain their dresses and suits.
Isaac’s mood was clearly ruined, and he walked away without another word.
"Can someone take me to the hospital?" I tried my best to speak, but no one helped me.
I saw Nathan leave with Zoe without looking back.
I could only crawl to the front door and ask the driver to take me to the hospital before I passed out from the severe pain.
A nurse’s voice woke me up.
"How irresponsible of her to drink until her stomach bleeds. They should just let her die."
When she saw me waking up, she frowned impatiently.
"Now that you're awake, go and pay the bills."
I gritted my teeth and sat up from the bed, realizing I had no money.
The driver must have left.
I could only call Nathan.
"Who is this?" Zoe’s sweet voice answered.
"...It’s me, Diana."
"...Nate? It’s Diana." I heard Zoe call Nathan, her voice even softer.
I heard footsteps approaching, and Nathan picked up with a lazy voice, "What do you want?"
They had probably just had sex, and I missed the mate bond pain because I had passed out.
Good for me, I told myself.
"I’m in the hospital. Could you send someone to pay the bill for me?"
Zoe’s voice was close, and I couldn’t help imagining Nathan hugging Zoe in bed while talking to me, "Is it urgent? You can go help Diana first."
"I’m not leaving you. Nothing is more urgent than you."
After coaxing Zoe, Nathan finally seemed to remember my existence, "If you need money, just call the Packhouse. You are Luna, and no one will make things difficult for you."
He hung up.
I should have expected this outcome and called the Packhouse again.
"You want money? No! Do you really think you’re the Luna? Let me tell you, I won’t give you money without the Alpha’s personal approval!"
The nurse was completely impatient.
"I've already told you, we can’t keep you here without money."
She tore the needle from my hand and said coldly, "Get out of here, please."
I was kicked out of the ward and could only sit by the side of the road in my thin, short dress.
It was cold, and I was in pain, but nothing could hurt more than my heart.
Nathan had left me for Zoe, and he didn’t mind the public knowing what he did.
Now I couldn’t even take a taxi because I had no money.
I tried calling Nathan again, but as expected, no one answered.
After being disappointed again and again, I slowly calmed down and realized how ridiculous I had been for two whole years with Nathan.
I tried my best to be a good Luna, to be a mate who did whatever Nathan wanted, but it was all for nothing.
I finally decided to call another number.
A deep male voice picked up quickly.
"Are you finally willing to call me? I thought you had forgotten me as your family."
My eldest brother, the Alpha of the Blade Moon Pack, was the only person who could match Nathan's strength.
I never told Nathan that I was of Alpha bloodline, hoping he would love me for who I was. But I was wrong.
"Marc..." My teeth chattered, "I want to go home."
